In June 2013, Microsoft unveiled their new Xbox One to the press. It was a huge event, with multi-screen video presentations and the big announcement given by Don Mattrick, Microsoft’s Head of Entertainment. Spark NYC, who designed and created all the video content, called on us at Mixology to create a soundtrack for the pre-build video. With 1500 members of the international press in attendance, the goal was to build excitement, without ever showing the product. In the video you see here, the screen is divided into 6 fields, each one being a separate screen, the center screen being over 20 feet high.
The goal is to build tension. Build mystery. Build excitement. But we cannot build too much, or we will overpower the ultimate product announcement. So we build on an EDM base, using Dubstep elements to create a totally modern, gaming environment. Definitely one of the coolest pieces we’ve done lately, especially when you hear it really loud, and in full 5.1 surround sound.
